Vogue100 hosted an elegant luncheon at Sunset Towers to discuss the intersection between sustainability and fashion.

Founder of the luxury e-commercefor sustainable luxury goods, Pierre played emcee for the panel. Valletta, who has long championed environmental causes, advised that before working with a brand, models, influencers, and more should inquire about its efforts towards sustainability. “It’s not just for a paycheck,” she declared.

Erlanger, who dressed nominee Meryl Streep for the ceremony, described a stylist’s responsibility to educate her clients on the issues of sustainability. Similarly, Lindley, as the magazine’s director of accessories, spoke of sustainability as a learning process: businesses, like people, need to incorporate sustainable practices gradually.

“There’s no reason why you can’t find a brand that is doing things a bit better,” Lindley cautioned. “You don’t have to be perfect, but everyone has a responsibility to improve.” Following the Golden Globes, the conversation felt especially timely. The previous night, winner Joaquin Phoenix, sporting a Stella McCartney tuxedo, thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press for serving a vegan meal and “acknowledging the link between animal agriculture and climate change.” Another champion, Phoebe Waller-Bridge announced that she would auction her Ralph & Russo custom black-and-gold suit to raise money for Australia, which has been ravaged by recent wildfires.

The discussion testified to the meaningful shift within media and fashion towards setting a higher example—one hopefully all will follow.
