Want to start a side hustle selling on Amazon? An e-commerce expert shares his top advice for beginners, including how to select a product and where to spend your first $1,000.

He offers advice around product selection and the future of e-commerce.If you're looking to make extra money on the side, selling products on sites like Amazon is one way to go."Any entrepreneurial endeavor is not going to be easy and starting an e-commerce brand is no different," said Tyler Walter, who runs a supply chain services company for brands in the US.

One of the reasons smaller brands haven't hopped on the trend is because they don't have the resources to find factories outside of China. 330 Trading also helps companies with their initial product development, he said:"A lot of brands that want to start might have a general idea of the product they want to sell but need help actually bringing that idea to life and tweaking the design and making it cost-effective to produce, so we help with that on the front end."

Then,"you can say, 'Okay, I'm going to do the exact same thing but I'm going to change mine from blue to white and I'm going to try to make mine charge a little faster,'" said Walter."That might sound counterintuitive to what you see in a YouTube video about how to create the next best product, but your goal is to get to profit as fast as possible.

Ultimately,"your product has to look visually appealing enough online that somebody actually wants to buy it," said Walter."And that comes down to the photos, videos, and the text that you're writing. Those would be the main things to spend money on to hire out." to spend your start-up time and money on, pass on web design, he added:"If you're going to sell on Amazon, you don't need to spend $2,000 developing your own website.
