This City Told Amazon And Google: No Incentives For YouAmazon canceled plans for a New York City HQ after meeting stiff opposition over big tax breaks and other incentives. A California mayor refused to offer similar incentives but landed Google anyway. Good start. But I wanna remind folks that when tech hires they do NOT hire local, and if they do, they're not for the jobs which would allow their workers to live anywhere nearby (food service/ custodial). Proceed with caution and skepticism, is what I'm saying. With the protest, it open people eye for states like California and NY don't need to provide an incentive to these companies. These locations are already ideal locations. These companies just want incentives because they know they can get it not because they need it. Very silly for these companies to set up shop in the most expensive cities in the US. You could put the tech jobs in Wyoming or West Virginia and the people would go there (plus the employees would have to move if they wanted to quit - helping employee retention).
