NEW YORK/WASHINGTON - Amazon.com Inc has started asking customers to cooperate with a Department of Justice criminal investigation of third-party sellers on its e-commerce marketplace, according to an email seen by Reuters.
The company is informing customers, who may have purchased products from such sellers, according to the email sent by Joell Parks, a senior law enforcement response specialist at Amazon. Earlier this month, the company said it is working with state attorneys general to identify and prosecute such third-party sellers and has restricted the type of merchants who can sell health and sanitation items on its website.“We wanted to notify you directly about this matter in the event that you are contacted by the Department of Justice in connection with its investigation,” Parks said in his email, which was sent to a Reuters editor who is also an Amazon customer.
Ignoring the thieves and criminals, I see nothing wrong with a 3rd party choosing whatever price they decide to charge. Is the not a capitalist market? A product is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I do see a morale argument however when did that become law?
I reported one of seller,I ordered one bottle 1000ml hand sanitizer and they shipped 100ml without discount or my permission, what the hell 🤬
If you check Amazon right now you will see tissue paper selling for 30 a box
there are plenty of examples of third-party sellers on Amazon who gouge customers with exorbitant prices long before COVID-19, hope they investigate that too!
