Remember the Wimpy character from Popeye: “I’ll gladly pay you next Tuesday for a cheeseburger today.”New reports have surfaced over the past few days that Amazon’s delivery track record is not all it’s cracked up to be this holiday season and that the company’s fabled two-day Prime service may be…well, past its prime.
“The winter storms that swept across much of the country at the same time also extended delivery times in some areas. We will work directly with customers who are experiencing an issue with their delivery,” the statement also said. For Amazon, this year marks the first Christmas season it will go without FedEx as a delivery service, having pulled its ground business from them earlier this year. While believed to have been a relatively small part of Amazon’s overall volume, it still is one less option when things get busy. Amazon is continuing to use both UPS and the post office even as it builds up its own Amazon logistics in-house delivery service through massive investments in ground transit vehicles.
