“Do you accept injustice? Or do you rewrite the law? I chose rewriting the law,” says civil rights trailblazer and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Amanda Nguyen, whose revolutionary fight for the rights of sexual assault survivors has continually defied the odds in today’s divided times.
“This was about more than my individual fight. It was about millions of survivors who needed their rights, too.”In today’s increasingly polarized political climate, Nguyen highlights the power of what she calls “radical empathy,” finding common ground with those who have doubted or dismissed her. “There were many times in which I sat across from politicians and I had to see the humanity in them when they might not have seen the humanity in me,” says Nguyen.
