Texas coach Steve Sarkisian watches from the sideline during the second half of the team’s NCAA college football game against Louisiana-Lafayette, Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, in Austin, Texas.AUSTIN — To the surprise of absolutely no one, redshirt freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers was the topic du jour once Texas wrapped up its first of 15 spring football practices.
With one practice down and 14 to go, including the April 23 Orange-White spring game, here’s a look at some of the more important topics Sarkisian touched on Tuesday morning:Last year, it was Casey Thompson and Hudson Card. Thompson transferred to Nebraska after starting the Longhorns’ final 10 games in 2021, but Card’s gearing up for another battle in his third year on campus.
At this early stage of the competition, Sarkisian said he’s primarily looking for three things from the quarterbacks. Sarkisian won’t name a starter until August — just like last year. But so far, Ewers has acclimated well to his surroundings while dealing with enormous pressure.
