On Wednesday, Alaska Airlines’ chief operating officer released a video apologizing to customers for widespread travel issues during the holidays.

“This holiday season, you experienced a significant delay, a missed connection, or more canceled flights, extended time on the tarmac, or perhaps a lost bag. We fell far short of the standard of care you have come to expect from us. This was the most difficult holiday travel season we’ve ever experienced at Alaska, although we both increased staff and prepared extra equipment to de-ice and keep the snow cleared, we ultimately did not perform,” Constance von Muehlen said in part.

Airlines have canceled tens of thousands of domestic flights since Christmas because of weather and staffing issues due to the ongoing pandemic. Alaska said it has already begun looking into where improvements can be made and plans to do better the next time similar challenges arise.

Alaska shatters COVID-19 case record as omicron adds to growing strain on hospitalsPandemic-weary hospitals in Alaska are facing mounting pressures on staffing and non-COVID-19 patient volume. Now, virus cases in the state have shattered daily records in a surge driven by the ultra-contagious but often less-severe omicron variant. Alaska reported more than 4,500 cases over two days, and even though virus hospitalizations aren’t close to previous highs, other factors — like COVID-related staff absences — are taking a toll on hospitals. pdougherty Ignore the hospitals filling up with “less severe Covid patients” If we didn’t test there wouldn’t be a problem. Let’s end this phony pandemic and the alleged human caused climate change by electing science denying leaders who aren’t burdened by so-called ‘facts’. Vote Republican Omicron is spreading quickly enough that it can be likened to an earthquake. Cases are the P-waves that travel at high speed from epicenter, tripping early warning alarms. S-waves are the deaths and hospitalizations that come later. They are what you feel as the earthquake.

U.S. Moves to Restrict Oil Leasing in AlaskaThe Interior Department said Monday that it plans to block oil and gas leasing on about 11 million acres on Alaska’s North Slope, or roughly half of a 23-million acre reserve set aside for energy development decades ago. good “Congress in 2017 gave the industry …. access to the refuge, but Biden administration officials are reviewing options for potentially undoing leases the Trump administration had awarded under that 2017 law.” The kind of stuff that makes your head hurt. What good is a signed law? Thank goodness. I like energy reliance on other countries. It really lowers costs 🤡🌎🎪
