RED BAY, Alabama — A worker with the Alabama Department of Public Health investigating reports of a pack of dangerous dogs was attacked and killed by the animals, and now the dogs’ owner is facing criminal charges.
The body of Jacqueline Summer Beard, 58, was found Friday by deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office after receiving calls of a suspicious vehicle on a road outside of Red Bay, according to the sheriff’s office. When deputies arrived to investigate the suspicious vehicle, they were met by residents. While deputies were there, the dogs began attacking the residents, the sheriff’s office says. One of the residents had minor injuries.Authorities say Beard likely was in the area investigating reports of an attack by the dogs earlier in the week. In the previous attack, a woman from Mississippi was mauled by the dogs while she was walking.
