The new law makes abortion illegal in almost all cases and says doctors who perform an abortion could face up to 99 years in prison. But the law still faces big hurdles ahead.

That's especially true with Alabama's new abortion law, the strictest in the country. The law makes abortion illegal in virtually all cases -- including cases of rape and incest. It also says doctors who perform an abortion could face up to 99 years in prison -- similar to punishment for rapists and murderers. But there are still hurdles ahead.

Wade -- the 1973 decision that legalized abortion in the US, said Eric Johnston, president of the Alabama Pro-Life Coalition. The coalition helped draft the Alabama bill. Will Chief Justice John Roberts try to overturn Roe v. Wade? But it can take years for the Supreme Court to hear a case, if it chooses to hear the case at all. The nation's highest court decides which cases it wants to take, and it might not take up the Alabama law if it's struck down in lower courts.

I think the world is long overdue for a good plague.

S. Voy prune

People now know how sick chauvinistic hypocritical and irreligious the Alabama state legislature and Governor is. And yes we all know the Governor is a quisling woman.

Next take away their right to vote I guess. Trumpeters are driving this country backwards. Who’s body is it again? Does the guy who impregnated her get sent to jail for the entire life of this person?

What happens NOW? Thousands of little helpless children will be spared the most cruel death possible, that's what will happen now!

Exactly what they wanted to happen SupremeCourt

Ladies.. move out of this state. Next you won't be able to vote cause you dont matter to the boys in charge...leave to save your rights.

What happens now...well babies don't get RIPPED out of the (supposedly sacred) protection of the womb in a horrifyingly PAINFUL DEATH!!!!...THATS what happens!!!👍

It will be great if they restrict gay rights but not abortion. Am not for abortion but some circumstances call for it .

Now we realize that what all those founding fathers said was true 🤷🏼‍♀️ We now have laws that govern our lives...that a small group want in order to further their own agendas...and all we can do is bitch ab it in private...because the media owns mass communication 🤔 Bleak

What happens now? I know that we’ve all seen out in public, children who are neglected, dirty, malnourished and abused. There will be more of them. These lawmakers are talking “God’s will.” Aren’t we supposed to have a separation of church and state?

Trade Alabama for Puerto Rico

Let’s create a fund that will take women across their state line to get women the care they need. It would have to be free and we would have to provide transportation and accommodations? I’m not sure where to begin any help is welcome! AlabamaAbortionBill protectwomen

Praise Jesus. Keeping babies who are created in the image of God from being murdered by the democrats.

I'm ashamed of my home state AL for this horrible injustice! They're going backwards! The right to decide what happens to my own body CANNOT be taken away from me by any government, no matter how hard they try. Let's be fair and make it illegal to take Viagra or have a vasectomy.

Answer: Hopefully more babies live, and people become more careful about sexual activity.. (But we know how cnn's far left activist 'journalists' are going to spin this)

Hopefully more states follow their heroic example!

No more abortions. That’s what. prolife

Babies are saved.

Sales of Cytotec go up over the internet

Babies survive! And women who are sexually active, with their significant other, make the choice to conceive and have a baby or not before they decide to have sex. Fantastic!!

This is next.

We hope Alabama, the disgrace of the nation, sinks. GovernorKayIvey is a coward and a hypocrite. Nothing more. The people of Alabama are poorly educated & these people took advantage of that. Disgraceful & useless state.

we need more supreme court justices, who will protect the unborn n our individual religious freedoms n liberties--thats why we, obama voters, independents, we the voters. elected trump n took our courts, country, n lives back from extreme left nonsense.

Life?

Notice they described “a baby”

I think abortion should be allowed for rape and incest victims, but besides that

Not abortions...

it takes a special kind of dumb woman to vote to take away their own rights as woman to control their bodies

Perhaps now it's time you start becoming more responsible about your sex life?

People move?

Talibama...the first victim of Christofacism.

Why the hell are men even commenting on this you have no right to say anything it's not your body may be there would be fewer abortions if there were less dead beet dads and men that rap women SO keep it in your pants

Now.... thousands of unwanted babies will grow up abused, unloved, neglected and turn into vengeful adults who you’ll happily give lots of guns to.

Women will die....that's what going to happen

What happens? ACLU puts a stop to them.

Alibababama the first state in the United States of TRUMPTRASHISTAN has just initiated their brand of sharia law. Next they'll pass a law saying it's okay to Stone women just for saying no.

What happens now? It goes to SCOTUS and, God willing, results in Roe v. Wade being overturned.

Make all men in Alabama get vasectomies

You leave Alabama

Boycott Alabama and everything related to the backward state

Republicans : We are Pro-Birth! Also Republicans: Sorry, we're full.

Say goodbye to Roe v Wade.

Men have no business telling women what they can do with their bodies. This is horrible law and every woman should move out of that state and any others that create similar laws. I would be embarrassed to be from there.

It will go to Federal district court. Be struck down an be appealed. May or may not be taken up by SC

Abort Alabama.

I know more females who are anti abortion than men who are anti abortion.... Love how i keep seeing men being blamed for this.

Still not covering this story as of today. If the races of this crime were reversed it would be the number one story for a week.

I hope the voters/non-voters of Alabama keep that same energy they have today, when it is election day for their state representatives. 😐

Then men in Alabama should all become sterile Womenrightsarehumanrights

Fewer babies die.

CAUTION:Republican Idiots work here!

People quit bitching and follow the law.... After all its a democracy, this is what the majority asked for

What a shocker.. Alabama will do anything to keep incest alive 😂can we cut Alabama off

Nothing except the hype from those in favor of abortion.

What is the first amendment freedom of speech mean?

Lives are saved!

Good! I’m happy for them . Seeing that New York is a labeled the Baby killer state.

With any luck, what follows is the rest of the country follows suit. Obviously morally bankrupt states like NY, IL, and CA won’t but the rest of the country hopefully still isn’t completely amoral.

THIS is unacceptable

I remember when people trusted cnn, the ratings should tell you those days are gone.

BOYCOTT...

Our own Christian Taliban trying to bring back the Dark Ages. AmericanTaliban

Alabamans who want to end human life will have to go to a different state to do their business.

I’ll go with Lawsuits for a thousand, Alex. It’s the only way the Left knows to counter these things since their arguments are hypocritical and ridiculous.

Good for Alabama

Shouldn't the citizens of AL have a say or vote or have they lost their voice like the majority in 2016

Becoming Gilead in 5.4.3.2.1

so babies get a chance to live so if a woman is raped do you really think she's going to be able to be a good mother that every time she looks at that baby she's going to think of the man who assaulted her I love it when men think they know how women feel

Men Must Start Giving Birth In Alabama...

Babies get to live

Fence this state off from the rest of us.. please!

What happens now? Millions of babies will be saved and have the right to live their lives!! Now, let's get all the others states to follow suit. BabiesLivesMatter prolife EndAbortion

Now The Republican Party has probably forfeited most women voters in 2020

We argue over who's opinions are correct.

Vote 2020.

Religious wars and this will exacerbate religious hatred on both sides....so don't be surprised when religious wars come to your hometown.

to all the men on here who say this is a good thing how do you know if a woman is raped what she should do this is absolutely disgusting this is why Trump was elected the conservatives hate the guy but they want to own the court to own a woman's uterus!

Some liberal Judge shoots it down. The end.

What happens now is babies will get a chance at life.

What happens now? The God-given right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is protected for Alabama babies.

How does Alabama's abortion bill legislators are currently weighing stack up? The GOP war on women is real. They believe what we do with our bodies is the business of old white men, not our own.
