Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey on Thursday signed the nation’s most restrictive abortion law, setting up a court fight that Republicans hope will end with the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade.

Just this year, four states, including Georgia last week, banned abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected — about six weeks into a pregnancy. But Alabama’s law goes even further. This measure prohibits abortion at any point during the pregnancy and while a woman can’t be prosecuted, a person who performs the abortion can be convicted of a Class A felony and be imprisoned for up to 99 years in prison — essentially a life sentence.

Staci Fox, the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Southeast Advocates, which covers Alabama, said hundreds of people have already called confused and concerned about when these new laws take effect, and asking if they need to schedule an abortion more quickly or if abortion has already been outlawed.“We must always respect the authority of the U.S. Supreme Court even when we disagree with their decisions,” she said. “Many Americans, myself included, disagreed whenwas handed down in 1973.

The state Senate debated the legislation for several hours Tuesday evening, though the outcome was never really in doubt. Democrats tried to force votes on amendments such as one that would force the chamber's Republicans to bear the cost of expected litigation and another on adding exceptions for rape and incest. All of the efforts failed.

No government, federal, state, or local have the right to dictate what a woman can and can not do with her body. That is a personal decision only given by God!

Interesting to consider that even if they 'won the war' to any degree with this SC, the GOP may never recover politically, and effectively have called themselves out on women and impacted minorities. And this is why the ERA could never pass, which also says volumes about the GOP.

I think if you'll check Alabama couldn't enforce the law because of Roe being a federal law but don't ya think that it should be revisited based on the radical ways it's being twisted in some states ? If a child can live outside the womb it should be untouchable

Does the law includes death by stoning?

Finally America standing up for humans!

She is a sorry, uninformed, ultra conservative b..ch!

You love babies but you have the fourth highest infant mortality rate in the US. And the highest rate of cervical cancer. But let’s cut funding/ research to assist those areas and ban something only 30% of the population disagrees with. GOTTA LOVE THE HYPOCRISY!

The worst example of a woman

Hateful woman

God has no place in Government!. God will have to judge a woman's decision with her body when the time comes!. Not by this woman or any other Christian Nazi!. Where is the Separation of Church and state?. Hasn't religion done enough in this world's history to harm it?. Still Is!

What pro-lifers don’t realize is that a cell is not a human being. That’s like saying the plans for a house is a house. Yes it is alive. All organic things are. It is the completion of those plans that make a human being a human.

SenatorCollins This is your fault! We all knew this would happen. You and your BFS Confirmation votes 🖕🏻

Republican women can be very scary too😮

🔶 ♦️ How about fixing Alabama prison system? ♦️ 🔶

Republicans are the American Taliban!

How is a state gung ho about 'pro-life' but still has the death penalty? 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

These people are alive, too.

She's probably an evil climate crisis denying liar at the same time who will be responsible for millions if not billions dying trying to escape places that are no longer habitable. She probably really is hypocritical enough to be that way and to say life is a gift from God.

Anyone planning vacations in Alabama, please reconsider. In addition, Mercedes, Toyota and Hyundai all manufacture cars and/or engines in Alabama. If you are considering a car purchase, check if it was manufactured there.

🔥🤬🔥

I thought politicians were supposed to work for the people. EVERYONE KNOWS the polls show a majority of people understand the abortion situation.

look at the pattern .....always these soon to be gone VERY OLD people that's setting up America's down fall!... laws fail, courts fail.......we fall, this Gov. fits that pattern.

She is 70+ years old and never will be pregnant again. What the fuck does she care? Isbshe going to support all these women with unwanted pregancies? What about the kids? Where is all that money for food and education will come from?

Alabama Gov KayIvey, upon signing barbaric abortion ban: 'No matter one’s personal view on abortion, we can all recognize that this bill may be unenforceable.' UNSPEAKABLE COWARDICE attends her pandering to FakeChristian MaleChauvinist WhiteSupremacists. GovernorKayIvey

I assume they also immediately passed legislation that guarantees the children will have access to healthcare, food, good schools.

She must be very proud of her complicity to this assault against all women. What a way to be remembered in history.

Roe v Wade will be effectively overturned by allowing unrealistic windows of time to actually get one. But it will be a good lesson of what is really at stake in a Presidential election.

She screwed up and went off script - she could have stayed on message by vetoing the bill as too restrictive - been a woman hero to the pro-choice camp and gave other states the opportunity to defeat roe v wade with their scripted programs - SCOTUS won't let bill stand... idiot.

Actually if people were smart they would focus on the destruction of the Womans MentalHealth and the PTSD and Depression that will destroy the womans life for having to carry that baby of a rape or incest. Talk about FUCKED UP.

Alabama- the Sharia State.

Gov Ivey sez WELCOME TO TALIBAMA!

Have fun paying for fetal alcohol syndrome.

Sadly this law only affects poor women who can't afford to travel and will bring back illegal back alley abortions for poor people.

Fetus worshipers are trying to overturn Roe V Wade. It won't work. All this does is make the state look bad

Right. Because religious whack jobs think life before birth is more important than life after birth.

Alabama Governor Signs Abortion Ban Into LawAlabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed into law the most restrictive antiabortion measure in the country, effectively outlawing the procedure in an effort to prod the U.S. Supreme Court to reconsider a woman’s right to terminate a pregnancy.
