The development has been met with contention by community members, who question whether the property should be developed at all.

this week in a 7-6 vote agreed to sell 68 acres of land located in the northwest part of the city with Frank Boulevard on the north and White Pond Drive on the east to Triton Property Ventures.

Council voted not to let community members speak at the meeting and they were later escorted from the meeting by Akron Police at the request of Council President Margo Sommerville. “But we also can’t grow Akron by latching on to every development proposal even when considerations of environmental sustainability and quality of life and community input all go by the way. And here many residents are saying they want to see something better,” he said.

The next step in the development process includes an inspection period during which the developer will conduct tests and inspections at the site to determine whether they will purchase the property. If the developer agrees to purchase the property, they will be required to conduct a survey of the property and provide it to the city, according to the city. The developer will donate $15,000 to the City’s Capital Improvement Program to purchase trees throughout the city.
