Maj. Gen. Phillip Stewart's lawyers tried to punch holes in a female subordinate's testimony that he forced her to have sex. She insisted it wasn't consensual.

The lead defense lawyer for an Air Force general charged with raping a female subordinate tried hard to shake the woman's account of a drunken sexual encounter with Maj. Gen. Phillip Stewart , suggesting that she was a willing participant and could have withdrawn from the tryst at any time but didn't.

What to know about the rape case against Maj. Gen. Phillip Stewart Bunn also zeroed in on a statement the woman made to Air Force Office of Special Investigations agents shortly after the encounter: The woman said that when Stewart put an arm around her as they sat on a couch earlier in the evening, it felt comfortable. 'At that point, I felt good,' the officer told Bunn, adding, 'I was not thinking clearly.' But the witness insisted that the sexual encounter was not voluntarily.
