U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon has given former President Donald Trump's lawyers a deadline to oppose the gag order that special counsel Jack Smith is pushing for in the classified documents case.In a Sunday order, Cannon, the Trump appointee overseeing the former president's classified documents case in Florida, set a mid-June deadline for Trump's legal team to respond to Smith's motion asking Cannon to modify Trump's bond conditions.
''Trump's repeated mischaracterization of these facts in widely distributed messages as an attempt to kill him, his family, and Secret Service agents has endangered law enforcement officers involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case and threatened the integrity of these proceedings,' the May 24 filing read. 'A restriction prohibiting future similar statements does not restrict legitimate speech.
