Bob Jones took the girls’ 6A-7A championship with 321 points, topping Auburn with 216 points. St. Paul’s was third with 203 points, followed by Grissom and defending champion Huntsville . The state champion coaches are Vicky Bedsole, UMS-Wright girls; Wade Thaxton, Bob Jones girls; Dustin Thomas, Boaz boys; and Arthur Fortin, Huntsville boys.
The 200-medley relay and 400-freestyle relay times also set new records for all divisions. The 200-medley relay team included sophomore Luke Bedsole, junior Cole Winthrow, junior Bradford Johnson and senior Myles Kimball. Sophomore Juan Pace, Bedsole, Johnson and senior Samuel Hardy made up the record-setting 400 relay squad for the Panthers. The 200-freestyle relay team was comprised of Johnson, Pace, Withrow and Kimball.
Indian Spring swimmer Mark Underwood set an individual state record by winning the 100-yard breaststroke race with a 1A-5A time of 55.49 seconds in the prelims and won the finals with a time of 55.67. In Class 6A-7A, Bob Jones junior Samantha Chan won the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:05.87 finish and also captured the 100-yard butterfly at 54.81 seconds. Her sister, Abby Chan, finished second at 56.38.
