. The second-largest expenditure — $17.1 million — is for school districts to buy silent panic alert technology, which allows them to alert law enforcement during emergencies.
“The State of Texas is acting swiftly to ensure our schools are secure and that children, teachers, and families across Texas have the support and resources they need to be safe as we work to prevent future tragedies like the heinous crime committed in Uvalde,” Gov.The state’s Republican leaders have largely championed mental health and school safety as the policy response to the May shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, resisting gun-control measures.
In approving the funds, Abbott emphasized almost all were being transferred from the TEA surplus and would “not affect current school operations or funding.” Just over $100 million is coming from that source, while the remaining $5 million is being tapped from the state’s Health and Human Services Commission.
Most of the money, $50 millions, will go to bullet proof shields for the police. Which company is producing such shields? Follow the money.
smh. . . make it make sense. 50 mil on shields won't buy courage for the officers.

Algerian teen take off his shirt to shade his younger brother from the heat of the sun 😍
Abbott did nothing after the first school shooting, but take funds for training and improvements in schools. Now it’s been deemed that No active shooter training was implemented and some lame duck/chief of police was given a cushy job to protect those children & failed to think.
What about the $200+ million already diverted? Wasn't that long ago that GovAbbott gutted funds for Special Needs children. Where is all the taxpayer monies going? If Texas is 'awash in cash' as Abbott states, then where's it going? Not to the ppl that's for sure
Is he going to give back the $212 million he diverted?

Half the money is to protect the police. This is not about student safety anymore.
So $50M for bullet resistant shields for police and $17.1M for silent panic alert tech. $38.4M is going to Mental Health? How?
Less than half of the $200M+ mental health care he cut before the Uvalde shooting.
no.... Nearly $100 million is going to purchase more toys for militarized police. The leftovers might trickle down to 'mental health'.
