In the heavily patriarchal, male-dominated society of Afghanistan, where women and girls are usually relegated to the home, there is one tradition which allows girls access to the male world: bacha posh. A girl dresses, behaves and is treated as a boy.

It is unclear how the practice is viewed by Afghanistan’s new rulers, the Taliban, who seized power in mid-August and have made no public statements on the issue.

“Because it’s inside the family and because it’s not a permanent status, the Taliban may stay out ,” Barfield said. “It’s almost so invisible that it’s one of the few gender issues that doesn’t show up as a political or social question,” Barfield noted. The family has four daughters and one son, but their 11-year-old boy doesn’t have full use of his hands following an injury. So the parents said they decided to make Sanam a bacha posh.

Once she grows up, Sanam said, she wants to be either a doctor, a commander or a soldier, or work with her father. And she’ll go back to being a girl. The transition isn’t always easy.

With more girls pregnant, Zimbabwe pushes a return to school | AP NewsMUREHWA, Zimbabwe (AP) — Inside a sparsely furnished two-room home in rural Zimbabwe, a 3-month-old baby cries. His mother, Virginia Mavhunga, spends her days making trips to the well with a bucket on her head, selling fruits and vegetables at the roadside, cooking, cleaning, washing clothes — she has too much on her hands to offer her child, Tawananyasha, much comfort. Hope that's not primary school.! This seems to be a new growing challenge for many African Countries. If not immediately arrested in the new decade gender inequality will collapse the economy of these countries. Have single-sex schools to protect all.

US to allow teen semi drivers in test apprenticeship program | AP NewsDETROIT (AP) — The federal government is moving forward with a plan to let teenagers drive big rigs from state to state in a test program. Currently, truckers who cross state lines must be at least 21 years old, but an apprenticeship program required by Congress to help ease supply chain backlogs would let 18-to-20-year-old truckers drive outside their home states. Their brains aren’t done developing yet Sounds like the solution to the problem is worse than the problem...😟 Teens (and their problems) driving across state lines for days on end for little pay? Lawsuit against Prince Andrew a go despite Epstein deal | AP NewsNEW YORK (AP) — A judge gave the green light Wednesday to a lawsuit against Prince Andrew by an American woman who says he sexually abused her when she was 17. U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan wrote in an opinion that Andrew’s lawyers failed to successfully challenge the constitutionality of the lawsuit Virginia Giuffre filed against him in August. It isn't just Prince Andrew, most privileged people think they can do whatever they want because laws do not apply to them. But if he is found guilty, I hope he is extradited to the USA. Great news! Such a difference between honest USA judiciary and discriminatory, corrupt English one including CPS & metpoliceuk especially when they’ve to protect foreigners (like virginiagiuffre, horrific EUnational case) POTUS cnni CIA AFP VP Diversity4me Time for princeandrewisnext to be held accountable for his deeds.
