A sweeping admissions cheating and bribery scandal the FBI uncovered Tuesday is the latest blow to the nation’s most expensive and selective American universities, which are also battling allegations of misusing race in deciding who will be invited to enroll.

Dozens of wealthy parents — including "Desperate Housewives" star Felicity Huffman, Lori Loughlin of "Full House" fame and her husband, clothing designer Mossimo Giannulli — were indicted. Coaches at Georgetown, USC, UCLA, the University of Texas and other schools face charges, as well. Officials said the investigation continues and more individuals could be charged, possibly including students.

Having grown up rural, I saw how big team sports consume so much time+energy that many students who might succeed in college never imagine going. Making big team sports municipal would reduce how they dominate public school lives.

Today's national governments preach either isolationist policies to preserve the privileges of the wealthy, or globalist policies to advance national wealth. Government funding the best universities and the most able pupils is key to advancing any nations wealth.
Maybe stop enrolling based on race, sex, victimhood story and instead prioritize income, regardless of race. But that would mean not being racists, so Democrats will never allow it.

All these stories have the wrong focus. Yes, elite universities are filled with wealthy people. The why is what matters. SES preventing many from having books, tutors, money for college counselors, ACT, SAT, app fees. That all creates a huge barrier. Donor kids are irrelevant.
It's not a turn against the schools, it's outrage at the corrupt admissions process for these schools.
