As part of his plan to combat gun violence, Mayor Adams suggested rolling back NY's Raise the Age law, legislation that civil rights leaders—and Adams—lobbied for for years. The bill diverts 16 and 17-year-olds away from adult court into family courts.

In Mayor Eric Adams’ telling, kids are increasingly falling prey to adults who put guns in their hands — an unintended consequence of criminal justice reforms in Albany.during a City Hall speech this week, Adams warned, “far too many men above the age of 18 are victimizing children by forcing them to carry the weapons…Children are being used as pawns.

“It’s very easy for us to say, ‘Claw back this, don’t do that,’” she said. “But we can’t incarcerate ourselves out of these problems.”“Every New Yorker and particularly in the legislature is concerned with public safety right now,” she said. “We’re having some very serious conversations, none of which include going back on all of the work that we have already done.”

The stance has perplexed public defenders who say, under the existing raise-the-age statute, all felony charges brought against 16 and 17-year-olds, including gun possession, start in adult court and are only transferred to family after a judge weighs in. It’s also a divergence from the mayor’s position on the issue five years ago.

Adams this week cited statistics showing 2.5 percent of arrests in 2019 involved people under the age of 18 with guns. In 2021 that rate was 10 percent, the mayor said. Asked for the underlying data behind those statistics, the mayor’s office provided NYPD figures showing the number of arrests of youth under 18 overall had dropped from 10,276 in 2019 down to 4,800 in 2021.

Biden to talk gun violence with Adams in visit to NYCThe planned summit comes as Adams is scrambling to combat a surge in gun violence in the city and deliver on his key campaign promise of restoring public safety. Here we go again, blame it on the gun. How about holding criminals responsible? Just a thought. Oh, but that wouldn't fulfill the agenda of targeting the object they so wish to outlaw. Can you just imagine what these loons would do to a unarmed populace? No..not gun violence. GANG violence. Minority on minority violence. Repeat offender violence. They use all SORTS of weapons. The weapons are not the problem. The PEOPLE are. As are the people who are supposed to keep us safe from them by removing them from society

Biden To Meet With Adams In New York City Next Week To Discuss Gun ViolencePresident Biden plans to meet with Mayor Adams in New York City next week to discuss the steady rise in gun violence across the five boroughs. The visit comes after Adams had been pressing the federal government for help in battling gun violence. Hopefully the state-level proposals to create a recall process that will let us boot Alvin Bragg will give us a mechanism to make things better. Good luck with that. Not going to happen without addressing the root cause of violence. This is about making legal guns safe. It’s smoke and mirrors. The problem is illegal guns.

Mayor Adams Was Granted A Waiver To Hire His Brother At $1 Yearly SalaryBREAKING: Bernard Adams, Eric Adams' brother, has been granted a waiver by the NYC Conflicts of Interest Board to serve as senior advisor for mayoral security. Bernard Adams will make $1 per year and will have no staff our authority within the NYPD. I guess this is better but still not sure why it's happening at all. Can't he get advice from his brother in a non-official capacity? jwomack It’s ok. The mayor was a police officer. When you wear that bullet proof vest for a few decades, then we are allowed to criticize. That’s what he told us. So this former cop isn't even going to hide the corruption, just sugarcoat it. Got it. Can this guy not control schools for the next 4 years?
