A confident Eric Adams declared himself the “face of the new Democratic Party,” two days after voters delivered him a decisive lead in the NYC mayoral primary

NEW YORK — A confident Eric Adams declared himself the “face of the new Democratic Party” on Thursday, two days after voters delivered him a decisive lead in the primary to replace outgoing Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Adams, a 22-year police officer who retired as captain to run for state Senate, campaigned almost singularly on the increase in gun violence across the five boroughs. The message resonated as shootings continued to climb during the election. In addition to his resume, Adams spoke openly about being beaten by police as a poor, Black teen in Southeast Queens, providing him biographical reference points for both sides of a heated debate.

“We have allowed a group to hijack the term progressive,” Adams said. “So what I’m saying to the Democratic Party — stop believing a numerical minority is what the numerical majority is.”

such irony! for a liberal city who has this 'defund the police' movement now embracing the GOP message of law and order.

Goodbye NYC.

It ain’t over yet

Seems like a rather premature victory lap for a ranked-choice election. Beginning with only 31% of the vote means there's a real chance the more progressive candidates' votes end up coalescing behind one candidate.

We look forward to him keeping the promise. We have already heard too much empty rhetoric.

My god have mercy on our souls...

And hopefully that’s acting like a patriotic American.
