In a highly anticipated move, the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday overturned Roe v. Wade, which in 1973 made abortion legal in the country. The law has pitted abortion rights advocates against abortion opponents for decades. Michael Geer, president of the Pennsylvania Family Institute, a conservative advocacy group, said abortion opponents would continue their fight to overturn abortion at the state level.
Republicans in the Legislature have for decades sought to restrict, even ban, abortion in the Commonwealth. Gov. Tom Wolf, a Democrat and an abortion-rights advocate, has vetoed such bills and has vowed to continue to do so while in office.
