Some of the athletes are autistic, others have Down syndrome or cerebral palsy. Stronger muscles aren't the only benefit.

— Walking into a gym or fitness class for the first time can be intimidating for anyone, but especially for people who face extra challenges in life. A gym in Phoenix is trying to change that.

The workouts at the Arizona gym are grueling, but muscles aren't the only measure of progress. Some of the athletes, like Cade, are autistic. Others have Down syndrome or cerebral palsy. None have taken strength training until now. Speech pathologists Sarah Farison and Lillie Vosa, who are also certified trainers, created Able Fit classes, betting that newfound physical strength would lead to cognitive and emotional gains.

"A lot of students I was working with could not get their body to listen to their brain," Farison told CBS News."And I'm like, OK, I think we are gonna do something about it!" "When he's lifting a heavy weight, it helps his mind-body connection and allows him to pronunciate better," Randy said. The athletes come from different backgrounds and abilities, but the training is forging friendships and building confidence. Trending News

Ford could fit its next-gen vehicles with a pedal-free manual transmissionFord's new patent filings show a new type of manual box design that only uses hand inputs and doesn't require a clutch pedal to shift. Saab did this years ago in the early 9-3s. I test drove one, it work perfectly right till you needed to do a hill start. Alfa Romeo selespeed is also a manual transmission without a clutch. Typical Alfa, if you did a corner too fast it made the gearbox computer reboot and start randomly selecting gears. It was always obvious that you could use a hand-actuated mechanism to release and engage a clutch. Likely safer than a pedal, too.

Mayor Adams to expand plant-based eating clinic to all five boroughs“I want people to say, ‘What could I eat in my bodega right now?’” Mayor Adams said. “These black-eyed peas are right in your local bodega. The carrots in your local bodega. The bananas, the apples in your local bodega. The berries in your local bodega.” 'I get my 'oregano' from a local guy who stands outside the bodega.' THIS 4 year term will not end well. Healthy food choices to offset the rise of police brutality. Seems legit.
