ABC Cancels Neve Campbell Show After Seeing First Episode

ABC will not be moving forward with the crime drama Avalon, which was planned to star Neve Campbell. Hailing from Big Little Lies creator David E. Kelley and based on a short story by Mitch Connelly, the plot takes place in the city of Avalon on Catalina Island. Nicole Searcy , a Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Detective, heads up a small office there.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Though it received a series order back in February and casting additions that include Demetrius Grosse, Alexa Mansour, Steven Pasquale, and Roslyn Ruff, Deadline now confirms that ABC will not be forward with the Neve Campbell crime drama. Although it's a bit of an unusual move, ABC chose to rescind its series order after seeing the pilot. The network has the option of doing so after receiving the first cut.

In addition to her role as Maggie on The Lincoln Lawyer, Campbell is part of the Twisted Metal adaptation on Peacock. Although she's currently slated to only recur on both shows, the current status of Avalon may mean that she could be available as a main character on either drama. In terms of her presence in movies, there is a big push for the actor to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in a future Scream movie.

As for Kelley, the megaproducer behind memorable series like Ally McBeal and The Practice is keeping busy. In addition to The Lincoln Lawyer, he's got Big Sky on ABC and The Calling on Peacock. He also has a number of projects that are in development for Netflix and Apple TV+. It seems, for the moment, however, that Avalon won't be one of them.
