Abbie Stockard, who competed as Miss Hoover, was crowned Miss Alabama at the Wright Center on the campus of Samford University Saturday night.. Burrell, Alabama’s third black woman to be crowned, traveled the state and country during her year-long reign. She diligently furthered her community service initiative, ‘Save-A-Stem’, which encourages minority students and students in underfunded schools to engage in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Your new Miss Alabama, Abbie Stockard, is a 21-year-old nursing student at Auburn University. She’s from Vestavia Hills, and her goal is to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. Stockard’s community service initiative focuses on raising awareness surrounding cystic fibrosis. Over the three-day competition, all 39 contestants vied for the crown in categories of talent, evening gown, interview, and health and fitness.
Emma Terry, Miss Jefferson County, earned first-runner up. Maddi Heath, Miss Jubilee, was second runner-up. Marissa Luna, Miss University of Alabama, was named third-runner up. Hannah Adams, Miss Mobile Bay, was fourth runner-up. Stockard’s duties are effective immediately. She will spend her year representing the State of Alabama as an ambassador and will compete as Miss America. The title of Miss Alabama comes with a $15,000 cash scholarship.
