wasn’t the only project between these two superstars that recently made its way onto digital service providers .
Barry Hankerson, Aaliyah’s uncle and Blackground Records founder, explained in depth to this summer about how he and EMPIRE partnered together to put Aaliyah’s entire catalog on streaming for the first time ever. Much of Aaliyah’s music has been left off DSPs for more than a decade following her death in a plane accident on Aug. 25, 2001, when she was only 22 years old.
It feels nice to hear her voice again on new music. Miss you Aaliyah
theweeknd, song wasn’t good IMO let this woman Rest In Peace
The negativity in these comments shows people choose misery..this is a huge homage to Aaliyah and as a true fan, I am beyond grateful that TheWeeknd did this and adds to her legacy..no way you are a true fan of Aaliyah but hating on this gem in any way for any reason🤦🏾♂️ ♠️Sass
Don’t even wanna hear it.
I don’t listen to Aaliyah like that and could immediately tell her part was off😞
The hell is that shit? Aaliyah would have never let that be released of she were alive. It sounds unfinished as hell.
Honestly, Aaliyah did great. She sounds v refreshing. Hmm...'u were my poison all along,' wow bro she loved everyone but who really loved her on that day...deceitful biz partners. Smh
I haven't listened it to on headphones but listening to the phone speaker, I can tell the mix between Aaliyah and Weeknd is night and day-- Not in a good way. I agree with everyone that says the mix is off or could've been mixed better. Lolbvs
I miss her😥❤️❤️❤️
Collaboration with Aaliyah©
So refreshing to hear Baby Girl on the airwaves again!!!👍🏿♍️
Posthumous drops are just greedy and about money. This one ain’t no different.
This is sound engineering malpractice.
How is this a collaboration
It’s an ok song but it felt..wrong in a way. I can’t explain it but the feeling is weird af
Greedy. Horrible
😍😍😍😍😍
Wait what? I thought her estate had everything on lock. Gross. This smells like Drake. Remember 'Queen of the Damned'? Anyone ever notice the creepy stage resemblance to the stage he walked out on on during the Astroworld event?Drake was weird af on Aaliyah.
?
Collaboration? How exactly did Aaliyah collaborate?
…it feels weird.
how much did he pay to make this happen..
Her vocals after 20 years are still 🔥🔥
Leave Aaliyah’s soul alone. Let her legacy be. This is awful.
Yuck
They should've left this in the drafts. Pls just let her rest.
It’s bad…I’m sorry AALIYAH ❤️
Wished hed blended her vocals into the song better. However to hear her voice again makes me happy.
I know people are hatin on the vocal qualities, but fuck that shit. The song is good. I woulda slow danced the shit outta that song in highschool. Class of '99.
🎧listening rn on repeat wow very good📑3
HORRIBLE, disrespectful to her vocals
HORRIBLE
How can a dead person sing?
That’s weird
No, this is just no..... This is exploitative af. Aaliyah died in 2001. Nobody even heard of this guy until 2012.... This is unacceptable. This is NOT a collaboration this is exploitation and a vile abuse of her memory and legacy.
How do you 'collaborate' with someone who's been dead for 20 years?
94% of people on twitter weren’t even alive when Aaliyah but they all act like they lost their best friend.
It’s good to hear her voice on something new, but this was unnecessary and doesn’t even sound right.
'Finally'
It’s a good song. Not quite sure why so many people are all in their feelings because The Weeknd took part. He’s a great artist and the two of them blend vocally quite well. BravoTheWeeknd
BrandonZavala25 !!!!!!!!!!
Bro she didn't even know him this feels like a cashout
This makes me so uncomfortable. Let her rest. The family is greedy. Robert must be in need of money.
Pass
There’s no “collaboration” between aaliyah and theweeknd because she’s dead.
The way he acted when he didn't win an award makes me feel 100% like she would never work with him in real life. Kinda disappointed this was allowed to happen. She's an icon in my world. He isn't.
The ego this guy has, though, thinking hey, let's take this amazing talent I didn't even know personally, rip her hard work off, and remix it to suit my own monetary purpose. What a jackass.
I be breaking in to song “Boyyyy I’ve been watching you like a hawk in the sky that flies but you were my preeeeeyyyyy” all the time and I gotta look around and make sure no one heard me
good
Natalie Cole released a beautiful album of duets with the late, great Nat King Cole. It was a moving tribute of a daughter to father. This, though, feels exploitative. I just hope Aaliyah's family gets the royalties and not money grabbing executives. At least her memory lives on.
Only Weeknd fans will like it. It didn't serve Aaliyah where her legacy left off.
who asked for this? what were their intentions?
this the weird shit Prince was talkin abt w/the holograms. she's gone. how you know she'd even be into his music? don't fuck w/creatives & their work. it's spiritual for us. it's our truest most vulnerable form of expression. we don't have the right 2 manipulate their truth.
🤩
Sawyerthet
I actually like it
The Weeknd messed up by not getting Timbaland to make the beat.
we do not want to here the weeknd with aaliyah
Lit🔥🎶
A BOP
Okay... I think...
