A recent study shows that electricity blackouts can be avoided across the nation — perhaps even during intense weather events — by switching to 100 percent clean and renewable energy, such as solar, wind and water energy.

shows that electricity blackouts can be avoided across the nation — perhaps even during intense weather events — by switching to 100 percent clean and renewable energy, such as solar, wind and water energy.Technically and economically, we have 95 percent of the technologies we need to transition everything today,” said Mark Jacobson, lead author of the paper and professor of civil and environmental engineering at Stanford University.

For years, some have expressed skepticism about the viability of large-scale adoption of renewables, owing it to their costs. But Dessler said that while solar was an expensive energy source 10 years ago, it is“A lot of people’s understanding of renewable energy is extremely out of date,” said Dessler, who was not involved in the research.

The team also found interconnecting electrical grids from different geographic regions can make the power system more reliable and reduce costs. Larger regions are more likely to have the wind blowing, the sun shining or hydroelectric power running somewhere else, which may be able to help fill any supply gaps.

The study stated costs per unit energy in Texas are 27 percent lower when interconnected with the Midwest grid than when isolated, as it currently is.“In pretty much across the board, we find that it would be less expensive, more reliable, make better use of the energy if we were to expand on interconnection,” von Krauland said.

Come on

Can I get some of what you're smoking?

This is pure nonsense. We are no where near being able to replace base load energy sources. Ridiculous assumptions here include new sources of geothermal power, ~56% percent reduction of energy needs due to efficiency and that many people can and will buy expensive battery backup

Oh no

Nuclear is more reliable.

.Dr. Strangeclimate strikes again: No one is buying the 'wind energy will save us' anymore. If wind energy is so great, why aren't there giant wind turbines in the District of Columbia?

Nuclear power or shut up

Except, you know...on days where there isn't enough wind, or it's too cloudy.

Ridiculous lie.

What about solar panels ? I got it and worked very well.

Renewables are great and all (by no means perfect), but even after reading through, I don't see how this addresses blackouts as far as intense weather goes. How is switching from coal to wind going to stop ice or falling trees from downing power lines? High demand from extreme...

Can somebody pls post a link to this misterios study? Sounds like a scam ...

Won’t happen. It’s simply unsustainable.

How about nuclear?

Texas knows this. But the current government is beholden to the O&G industry. If we elect new leadership, this will change. We have more wind, solar and water energy than any other state. BetoORourke

Texas tenants hit with soaring rent increases see little relief in sight“To try to come up with an extra $400 a month, that’s not that easy to do.” Rent prices in Texas are soaring. Experts say the state's landlord-friendly regulations and lack of rent control put tenants in difficult financial positions. No kidding we are well on our way to being as expensive as California with none of the cool things they have there😅 No mention but a big part of this is rising property taxes. If I was a landlord my renter would be looking at a 250$/M increase. Well that…and inflation…and the rent moratorium for so long. How else did you think they’d recoup the losses?
