The Kentucky state legislature passed a bill on Tuesday setting restrictions on warrants authorizing entry without notice, more commonly known as no-knock warrants.

The legislation comes a little more than a year after the death of Breonna Taylor, a Louisville EMT who was killed by police in March of 2020 after they executed a no-knock warrant. While there are conflicting reports between police and bystanders as to whether police announced themselves during the incident, her death spurred a national conversation about the use of this type of warrant.

Pete Kraska, a criminologist at Eastern Kentucky University, told CNN that his biggest concern is the lack of specificity in what is and isn't acceptable for these warrants, or the potential that officers will do the no-knock procedure without asking for the warrant. Historically, these types of warrants have been used for minor drug infractions, and it absolutely will curtail its use if the bill is passed, he said.

UROCKlive1 No knock & knock are a distinction without a difference sadly, the police need to actually vet their new members & stop the militarization of its forces. This window dressing will not at all address the serious issues with the police, which is fundamentally cultural.

Doesn’t senile joe want no knock warrents to get your guns

I'm glad to see that at least some changes were made.

Protesters Arrested During Kentucky Derby Over Breonna Taylor KillingSeveral protesters near the Kentucky Derby were arrested Saturday as they protested the killing of Breonna Taylor ... but as for why they got arrested -- well the cops won't say. Open gun law doesn't mean you can unholster it any time you want. Pointing a gun for no reason is menacing and he should have been arrested. TMZ mad they didn’t get the info they wanted…🙄 “Suddenly man pulled out gun” & “no evidence man was threatened.” Yeah, I’m sure the guy just pulled out the gun for no reason. 😑👌 Is that Glenn Beck, in the photo?
