A woman died after being hit by a float in New Orleans Nyx parade

The woman, police said, died at the scene. Not much is known about what happened before the incident, police chief Shaun Ferguson said during a news conference, but the parade was allowed to continue after it was re-routed around the incident."The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family," the release said.

Julie Lea, the captain for the Krewe of Nyx, called the incident a"tragic occurrence," according to CNN affiliate WVUE.Read More"The parade takes a backseat when something like this happens on the route. On behalf of the entire Krewe of NYX. Along with the City of New Orleans, we offer our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the individual involved," Lea said in a statement said, according to the news station.

Y’all ought to correct this. The parade didn’t continue. The floats in front of the incident went on but the rest of the parade was canceled (which was more than half.)

Long live and rip

The parade wasn't re-routed around the accident. The floats that had not passed yet were police-escorted to the end. The floats that had passed before the accident continued on the route. Really there isn't much of an alternative. Maybe this will be the end of such large floats.
