Divorced borrowers who have been on the hook for their ex's student debt are finally getting the fix they need. But the Education Department's radio silence makes the win bittersweet.

. In some cases, borrowers are being held responsible for debt that was linked with an abusive former spouse, forced to choose between paying a debt that isn't theirs or tanking their credit as they wait for a solution.

The new legislation will allow borrowers with joint consolidation loans to separate them proportionally based on their initial loan amount. Now As a tax payer, I’m on the hook…thanks.

This isn't a tuition debt matter, this is a divorce matter.

I can’t believe people don’t want to pay others people student loans They must be Republicans

To be perfectly honest, I never thought I’d see the day in America where student debt forgiveness would be a real thing. I’m actually quite impressed! Biden is getting things done for the actual people…not huge corporations!

14,000 people? You write this for 14k people? They shouldn’t have been clueless enough to get married in the first place. And if you do marry, KEEP everything separate!

Still some thing to overcome, but nice to see the federal government trying to work for all of us.

It's not a win.
