There's a lot of buzz around a newly developed technology that helps beekeepers protect their hives from someThe solution is about the size of a grain of pollen, and when ingested by bees, allows the creatures to come into contact with these pesticides with— like a little bee vaccine. With 98% of the country's hives contaminated by at least six different pesticides and a third of our food reliant on bees for pollination, beekeepers are taking note.
“If it's a very severe dose and we have managed to get this treatment just maybe before or just after the bee has come into contact, then it might not work as well,” he says. “But based on beekeepers' feeding practices, we can do a pretty good job of protecting bees.”Advertisement “This really is a foundation where we can see that without pesticides, bees can make a good comeback,” he says.In the U.S., the agriculture sector relies on managed pollination services to grow food, Webb says. Beekeepers travel around the country and bring bees into fields to pollinate crops — from cherries to tomatoes to almonds.
merliebyrd hereandnow It's just a shame it's needed at all.
hereandnow (Video of a Queen bee hatching I took yesterday). I plant all bee friendly plants for my hives. Since they can fly for 2 miles to find nectar it makes it difficult to control where they go. Less pesticides should be used period.
hereandnow SaveTheBees 🐝
tenajd hereandnow Now what about the dieing birds up and down both usa coasts?
hereandnow npr this is an important story, I just wish if it's a story about honey bees, apis mellifera, you would show a picture of a honey bee. This is a photo of a bumble bee, bombus sp. Bumble bees face their own issues, arguably more issues, this story however is about honey bees
hereandnow 5G Bees
hereandnow please stop using chemicals. insects have their place in our shared environment
hereandnow Wait until the anti-vaxxers get a load of this. Weaponized 5G magnetic killer bees in your yard. Oh noes!!!!
hereandnow And by “enzyme” you mean... Not letting farmers blanket spray broad acting pesticides in the first place
hereandnow The bottle to the right is a pollinator safe insecticide, the bottle to the left is a widely used insecticide that’s applied to every tree and shrub you can think of and it’s decidedly not bee safe. This enzyme is hugely important to combat cost cutting pesticide applicators.
hereandnow Seeing as even when companies have policies to use bee safe insecticides they rarely do because they’re INSANELY more expensive than the general insecticides that cost $20 a bottle, proactively treating bees would be vitally important.
hereandnow Now protect pregnant mothers
hereandnow Hmm Beeontech or Modrona
hereandnow In the US we’re also seeing a collapse of native bee species and other pollinators, and that’s devastating multiple ecosystems. How will this help them?
hereandnow
hereandnow Then, they mutate & take over the world. I've seen this movie.
hereandnow But does it make them magnetic? That's how you judge the efficacy of a vaccine..
hereandnow stop using pesticides and let nature do its thing!
hereandnow It's okay. Bees aren't that important
