According to the poster, the Tesla owner was using the “Smart Summon” feature that enables a Tesla vehicle to leave a parking space and navigate around obstacles to its owner. Using just the Tesla app on your smartphone, you can “summon” your car to you from a maximum distance of 200 feet, as long as the car is within your line of sight.
The Reddit user said they also own a Tesla Model Y but were not the “poor soul who summoned his Tesla around several expensive aircraft - only to crash it into the most expensive one !”
Had to be in line of sight. Tesla
Smart my ass
If a Tesla can’t see it .. it’s not really there
First World Problems Pro Max
👏Just because you could, doesn't mean you should 😬
For those of you that are saying it isn't a story are you stupid? The Tesla with all its fancy cameras and software didn't see a giant plane. It's not important that the user used the feature wrong. It's that the Tesla couldn't see a very large stationary object.
Beta testing phone software is risky but beta testing a car is stupid af
Well now it’s Tesla Private Jet😅🙈
Not so smart
Good.
*the owner of the Tesla wasn't paying attention while held down the 'summon ' button. Is what actually happened
lmao

The products of the richest man in the world ladies and gentlemen
I guess he didnt order the airport extension package
Uh oh
Well, then I hope the planes got insurance. 😏
How the hell did that happen? Smart summon is meant to be used when you can see the car, and you have to keep a button engaged all the time. The second you let go, the car stops.
Who decided to smart summon on an airport? Bozo user error.
Good job elonmusk Looks like these would never roll over a baby stroller in a parking lot 🍼
I don’t even believe that the camera array algorithm is even designed to detect planes, especially since most of them are quite high off the air compared to normal cars
To be fair, most people training the AI for self driving cars probably don't anticipate $3.5 million jets to be in the way.
I know you guys fail at basic due diligence so here, going to post the Tesla model x smart summon manual. READ CAREFULLY! Then take note of the height of the ‘crafts tail
Where’s the video? This pic is so low res.
Dumb people will always find a way to outdumb a smart computer. Why are you trying to make the car pass near a plane?
wow, it’s almost like people don’t understand what this feature is and how it works Also why are we making such a big deal of this, like normal people won’t do this anyway?
It’s an ever evolving technology. It will surely have room to improve.
The driver said help by accident. Cars not at fault
Vision jet is not 3.5 million it’s around 2
Elon run Twitter is going to be dope.
karpathy is it possible that the model has never seen a plane in training ?
The better question is, what is a Tesla doing at a airport
Rich guy with a fancy tow tug, he’s just repositioning for takeoff.
They been giving Tesla bad publicity ever since Elon been trying to buy Twitter…. 😂
Kinda hilarious the number of people in this thread simping for Tesla/Elon and defending it at every turn.
the beef is real, electric car vs non electric jet
elonmusk well that’s funny.
Whoever the stupid person was, they did not take their finger off the app and the car hit the jet. You might want to reword your headline . The user must always be smarter than the program they are using. Clearly this person wasn’t.
More like dumb summon then
SaveSoil MyConnectWithSoil cpsavesoil SadhguruJV LetsMakeItHappen
This will happen once and then the software will be updated for ALL TESLA CARS worldwide.
its parked not crashed
More clickbait horrible Journalism from “The Purge “
Is Tesla smart summon using cameras or only sensors? Maybe it confused the plane body as sky or something else since it was white and since it was higher than the front of the car sensors didn’t pick it up. My theory.
It was playing GTA
How are you arriving at 3.5 million value?
Don’t Teslas advance sensors prevent this from happening?
Probably the plane hit the Tesla.
At least there limited to 2mph and the damage shouldn't be significant but still the driver should have payed attention and stopped pressing the button
Was this guy around the corner of the building or something? I’m surprised they even work inside AOA areas.
🙊🙊🙊 WholeMarsBlog feature almost complete eh
I think Elon just gave the autopilot AI a bunch or Russian dashcam footage
The owners fault. Should have let go of the summon button.
