The LIFE space mission will create a satellite network in space to take detailed infrared readings of distant Earth-like planets.

) is a mission that started in 2017 with the goal of developing the technology required to search for signs of extraterrestrial life in distant exoplanets. The mission will use a satellite network of five that will fly close to the James Webb Space Telescope (wanted to test whether the planned LIFE space mission, which will search for extraterrestrial life outside our solar system, can detect traces of life on distant planets.

Specifically, the satellite network will act as an interferometer to pick up the thermal radiation emanating from these exoplanets. The experiment results show that LIFE has a strong chance of detecting alien life with the satellite network if there is any out there. It showed that if a telescope like LIFE observed Earth from roughly 30 light years away, it would be able to determine successfully that it is a temperate, habitable world.
