The stress caused by the coronavirus and being holed up at home is likely to blame for disrupted sleep — and strange pandemic-themed dreams, one professor of neuroscience says. hereandnow

Many people are starting to sleep in a little bit later because they aren’t commuting to work or getting the kids ready to go to school, he says. The later into the morning people sleep, the more rapid eye movement [REM] sleep — the stage of sleep where dreams occur — they experience.

But in order to have dreams, you need to stay asleep largely throughout the night, he says. Heightened levels of anxiety during the day can disturb sleep, which British writer Charlotte Brontë described when she wrote that “a ruffled mind makes a restless pillow.” Walker, who has struggled with insomnia in the past, says he sticks to a set of rules to help him get better sleep. The No.1 rule is regularity: Go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day.- Avoid alcohol before bedtimeMany people like to enjoy a nightcap before bed, but Walker says alcohol actually disrupts sleep, so try to avoid drinking right before bed.

hereandnow It makes no sense to me that we fuel up with food yet still require sleep that consumes 1/3 of our lives. I have read sleeping sitting up could reduce that time to as little as 5 hrs. If so, why train us to sleep on our backs like exposed turtles.

hereandnow I haven’t had any disrupted sleep. But since the pandemic, I haven’t remembered any of my dreams.

hereandnow Whatever, I LOVE it!! No alarm clocks, no traffic, no people...it’s been absolutely AMAZING for this introvert.

hereandnow The REAL reason people are struggling in the stay-at-home order. That voice needs a name so you can tell it to shut up.

hereandnow It wasn't a dream. That's the sixth space after death. I used to come back from the brink of death. I knew it wasn't a dream, and when I was in a coma for eight days and nights, I was over there. Trust me, it's beautiful and quiet.

hereandnow It is now clear that a shut down was the wrong way to deal with a pandemic in which over 90% of the people who are hospitalized have an underlying condition. However, the left is determined that the economic crisis continue. They see it as an opportunity to enact their agenda.

hereandnow I dreamt a real estate con man was president say we should inject ourselves with floor cleaner... phew. Glad that was just a dream.

hereandnow The stress caused by surfing through a pandemic wormhole and back can also cause strange dreams - and the feeling that reality is a dream. I’m beginning to feel that perhaps a split event happened when realDonaldTrump was elected and we are now merging back into a main timeline.

hereandnow Sleep patterns like whoa...

hereandnow Revelation 7:1

hereandnow Same as my own state of mind it's very difficult at this point in time to think over the pandemic. It's really very stressful.

hereandnow Had a nightmare I was in crowded bar, drinking and having fun.

hereandnow As invisible as the virus itself is, the true psychological toll of the pandemic may not be fully appreciated for some time. Support your family, friends and neighbors!

hereandnow 4 am west coast I totally get it 😔

hereandnow so, 'light your pillow, lay back, watch the flames.' EddieVedderSays (not Vedder-endorsed, nor is it to be confused with Trump health advice)

hereandnow I've been dreaming of pineapples and hammocks.

hereandnow Do not forget the daylight savings time adjustment. It takes many up to 3 months to readjust. Tons of peer review studies showing we should abolish the capitalist practice.

The coronavirus 'Dunkirk moment': How amateur inventors and hobbyists are designing and making medical suppliesAs the coronavirus pandemic continues to push medical supply chains to their breaking point, a decentralized community of engineers, designers and DIY hobbyists — commonly known as “makers” — has stepped in to find creative ways to fill the gaps. Oh, if only Americans knew of such a moment as Dunkirk in wwii history...but a great analogy...even for the unknowing masses today who have forgotten never knew the saga of such solidarity entwined with bravery! Still: an interesting analogy.
