Researchers have figured out how the Amami spiny rat lost its Y chromosome, and some believe the same fate may be in store for humans

gene that triggers the development of testes.

The Amami spiny rat , found on the Japanese island of Amami Ōshima, is one of just a handful of mammals that lack Y chromosomes. What’s more, females as well as males have just a single X chromosome. As the existence of female mammals shows, the shrunken Y doesn’t contain any crucial genes, so cells and individuals can survive its loss. In fact, recent studies show. But the loss of the Y from an entire population should result in extinction, because there would be no more males.

To find out how male spiny rats still exist, Kuroiwa and her team first sequenced the genomes of several males and females, but didn’t find any variants unique to males. They then looked more closely and found that in male rats, one of the two copies of chromosome 3 has a duplicated region, right next toThe team did a number of experiments – including adding the duplicated region to mice – to show that this duplication boosts the activity of.

To demonstrate this beyond doubt, the team would have to delete the duplication in spiny rats to show that no males develop, says

“…the shrunken Y doesn’t contain any crucial genes, …” This is a popular misconception. The human Y chromosome contains unique genes, and a critical 2nd copy of companion genes on the X. This is why almost all XO fetuses die in utero.

But why ❓ What need to make it out!

NO Y CHROMOSOME RATS! You first read it here,Gentlemen. Can anyone explain how &. why is nature selecting for the 'Y Chromosomeless' Rats?

Too much estrogen in the water!

Maybe

God I hope not. I love men.

Bad news for the patriarchy!😂

MAJOR PURR 🐀💅

'Is the human Y chromosome on the way out too?' Cynical question as click bait was a bit unnecessary as this phenomenon is very interesting by itself. Especially when the article suggests that the proto-Y chromosome may functionally evolve into something analogous to the male Y.

I can't take your site's *unscientific, political agendas* anymore! Unfollowing this trash

No more penises you rodents!!! How dare you have a phallus! 😂

Jurassic park, “NATURE FINDS A WAY”. which is why the A O C “we only have 10 years left” CLAIM is pure STUPID POPPYCOCK DOO DOO!!! sadly, in a “man on the street” interview, the 20 to 30 year olds ask whether they believed that 10 year stuff. . . 90% said YES!! YIKES!!

That is a strangely cynical view of human beings.

We’re going to be manipulating our own genes far before nature does it for us

Amazing! 😱

That the y chromosome in humans are on the way out, is hardly 'hot of the press' news.

That the y chromosome in humans are on the way out, is hardly 'hot of the press' news.

uh no. and scientist agree. Liberal scientist are not scientist they are activist

Is this a good thing?

WeDoNotConsent

Satan and bitches would love to make an all girly world where the girls are girls and the boys are too (kinda).

That genetic 'future' has no future! How will it propagate? Either way, the timeline is 10 million years!!! I really doubt humanity will live that long.

Very Cool!!!!! ❤️,
