' in the night sky. Called conjunction, this is an optical illusion that we observe due to our location in the solar system when the two planets are actually millions of miles away from each other. While conjunctions usually occur with two or three planets, a five planet-alignment is rather rare. The last time the planets lined up in the sky like this was December 2004. Even if it may not be a once-in-a-lifetime event, it is still a rare one.
Not only will they be visible to the naked eye, but they will also appear in the order from the Sun viz., Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. In case you miss them one day due to cloudy weather, there is always the next day's morning to spot them. Although the planets will appear to be in the same spot in the sky throughout the month, they are actually moving away from their locations but ever so slightly.
If you miss this, the next alignment with these planets will occur in 2040. So just wake up before sunrise for a few days this month and enjoy the views of the solar system. Stay ahead with the latest science, technology and innovation news, for free:
