Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Princess Leia's description of the Clone Wars in A New Hope was entirely different from the Clone Wars depicted in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, but that's probably for the best. With A New Hope, George Lucas accomplished an incredible amount of world-building, and The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi continued to flesh out the galaxy far, far away.
The prequel movies included some of Star Wars' biggest retcons, which makes sense given the Star Wars movie order and how many questions the original trilogy left behind. One of the franchise's most significant retcons, however, can easily fly under the radar. Based on Leia's message to Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope, the Jedi involvement in the Clone Wars originally looked very different, and it would have completely changed the structure of the Jedi.

Leia's First Mention Of The Clone Wars Hints At Very Different Events In Leia's infamous speech imploring Obi-Wan Kenobi to come to Alderaan's aid in A New Hope, she said, "General Kenobi, years ago, you served my father in the Clone Wars.
George Lucas' Prequel Trilogy Took The Right Approach The version of the Clone Wars and the Jedi that ultimately appeared in the Star Wars prequel trilogy was much better than what almost came to be based on Princess Leia's description.
Ironically, the Jedi involvement that Leia described in A New Hope was really representative of the pitfalls of the Jedi during that era. While Obi-Wan wasn't serving Bail Organa or, technically, any politician, the Jedi Council became much too aligned with Palpatine, and their dedication to politics rather than to their own values and the Jedi Code led to their downfall.
