California voters will see only one statewide proposition on the March 3 primary ballot, a proposal to borrow money for the state’s schools. And in an election season dominated by a fiercely contested Democratic presidential race, this single ballot measure has received little attention.
The largest slice of Proposition 13 bond funds — $5.2 billion — would be earmarked for renovating existing, older buildings at primary and secondary schools across California. An additional $2.8 billion would be reserved for new school construction. Facility needs at career technical education sites and charter schools would evenly split $1 billion more in bond funds.
The ballot measure also changes traditional “first come, first served” rules about doling out school bond dollars. Projects impacting the health and safety of students would have the highest priority, followed by those from projects with limited local options.
I wonder if the LA TIMES investigative staff would do an objective analysis of where are the current educational funding really goes. Instead they try to make the public feel guilty because we refuse to further get fleece by the CA government.
If you’re really stupid enough to fall for voting yes on Prop 13 look no further than the gas tax and high speed rail scams as what this really is...another bait-and-switch by our crooked Governor and party-in-power in Sacramento. Wake up CA! Vote NO on Prop13!
I voted No. No more money for bonds until this state learns how to spend it. PS - California lottery was supposed eliminate this entire problem for schools 35 years ago, forever. The first chapter in the great book of lies to CA citizens that hasn't ended.
nope
maddyfarooo
Taxes to politicians as crack to the poor, 'Just Say No!'
NO on 13! RecallGavinNewsom
with bond issues being little more than tax hikes that voters impose on themselves (so democrats don't have to do it 'for us') down the line, this quote is relevant and very true.
NO
“Borrow money” = Jack everyone’s property tax until we break.
VOTE NO. It will raise property taxes and rents. The cost of housing is already too high in CA.
I voted no
Housing is already too expensive in CA. Please don’t vote for something like this that will raise rents and property taxes.
Vote No.
Increased taxes forever it seems likely.
Holy crap! More union BS. We're already in enough of a mess due to union-backed AB5 'A provision tucked inside the legislation that put Proposition 13 on the ballot also boosts organized labor, a powerful constituency for Democrats in the California Legislature.' RepealAB5
What happened to the lottery $$$ more taxes for indoctrination of our youth.
