A Dallas real estate agent built a Southwest flight simulator

Dallas real estate agent Kevin Sayre spends a lot of free time in his garage.estimates he’s spent about $20,000 to $25,000. From his Northeast Dallas home’s “hangar,” he can fly anywhere in the world. It’s a passion that he dates to being a kid dressed in a suit jacket and tie peering into the cockpit.“It was like love at first sight,” Sayre, 64, said. “I just love everything about it — the airplanes and the pilots and flight attendants and the airport, I just couldn’t get enough.

Sayre learned from his online simulator research that companies sell used or old aircraft parts, including a firm called Flightdeck Solutions based in Canada. He also found a Wisconsin company that sells surplus aircraft parts. Some of it, he said, he just made himself. Seven computers operate the simulator, with one major gaming computer. Live air traffic control radio plays out of a speaker above his head in the cockpit, too.

Once it was painted and set up, he reached out to Southwest in December to check out his simulator. They came over to see the simulator at his home. Some have interests that range from just a small monitor or even using a standard Xbox for Microsoft Flight Simulator, to builders like Sayre, who might invest thousands of dollars into an at-home simulator. Some people are pilots or aviation professionals, others just love aviation.
