ICYMI: A chaotic night of fire leaves a Sask. village in shock

The 34-year-old has worked on a fire truck since the year before he could buy a beer. And the Village of Alida and RM of Reciprocity No. 32 volunteer fire department is trained and equipped for the type of work it’s normally called to do.

That night, Fire Chief Jaye Lemieux got a call saying there was a fire a southwest of town, but he was away tending to a family emergency. So, Deputy Chief Boettcher got his four-man crew out to the property, where a camper and a house were on fire. They got established, but needed help, so he called in a Carnduff crew to assist.

In the end, all the buildings that burned were destroyed. Lemieux says there wasn’t anything any other fire department could’ve done. But there were no reported injuries, and crews contained the fires, saving the surrounding buildings.
