A man was being questioned by police late Tuesday following an hourslong standoff in a southwest Houston neighborhood that began with a man found dead in a backyard.

Police were called to a shooting in the 4200 block of Knotty Oaks Trail at about 1 p.m. Tuesday and found a man dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Police believed that another man involved in the shooting had gone into a nearby house, officials said during a media briefing at the scene late Tuesday. For the next nine hours, police negotiators and SWAT officers attempted to get the second man to come out. Police said they considered the man to be a barricaded suspect and armed with a pistol, though it was unclear Tuesday night if they found a gun at the scene.
