The man said he was not hurt but was cold. He had floated down the river for several minutes before he caught a wood pylon near the shore and waited to be rescued, firefighters said.
After 30 minutes of being in the water, rescuers found the man and took him to Providence Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for hypothermia and later released.Firefighters said the incident was a good reminder to wear a life jacket when on the water.
