Portrait of Harris County Sheriff Deputy Abraham Alanis and Sgt. Felipe Rivera who are investigating the Sun family murder at the Harris County Sheriff's Office Friday, July 25, 2014, in Houston. Parents Maoye Sun and Mei Xie and their two children, Timothy Sun, 9, and Titus Sun, 7, were found shot and killed in their home in the 14000 block of Fosters Creek Drive in Cypress around 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30.
On Tuesday, Gonzalez announced the arrest of Feng Lu, 58, the man they believe killed the family. Lu was traveling to the U.S. from China. When he landed in San Francisco on Sunday, San Francisco police officers, and agents from Homeland Security Investigations and Customs and Border Protection were waiting for him.
When the case first stymied investigators, they ended up offering a $70,000 reward for information. The questions around the case led to theories about whether the case was potentially professional hit — especially after reports from Chinese state media that made their way to the U.S. that a top member of the Chinese Communist part had reportedly confessed to ordering the hit.
It’s not clear what led to this break in the case, or how investigators tied Lu to the slayings. But two law enforcement sources said Lu was an acquaintance of Sun’s through work.
