Un incendio estalló el miércoles en un edificio residencial de 25 pisos en Los Ángeles y al parecer un número indeterminado de personas saltó por las ventanas, informaron las autoridades.
Acudieron los bomberos al inmueble en el lado oeste de la ciudad, donde se veían personas en el techo y humo que salía desde el sexto piso. Un helicóptero rescataba a personas en el techo. Los bomberos extendieron sus escaleras a los pisos afectados, y desde el interior salían chorros de agua hacia los balcones, indicio de que se combatían las llamas desde el interior.
El vocero de bomberos, Brian Humphrey, dijo que una cantidad indeterminada de personas saltaron de ese u otros pisos cercanos. Había una gran bolsa inflable en el suelo en un costado de la torre y un helicóptero de bomberos revoloteaba sobre el techo.Se denunció el incendio alrededor de las 8:30 de la mañana, unas dos horas después que llamas agitadas por el viento dañaron un edificio de oficinas de 26 pisos a tres cuadras de distancia.
Evacuaron a medio centenar de personas del edificio de oficinas, donde los daños mayores se registraron en los dos primeros pisos.
