$75K grant to give Mat-Su residents better access to gun trainingANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly recently passed a grant that would allow residents the opportunity to access free or reduced-cost gun safety training.
According to the Alaska State Troopers, the area that covers the Mat-Su and Glennallen is larger than the state of Arkansas. Forty-four positions are dedicated to protecting and serving that area, but there are currently 13 vacancies.“If this thing went off good, and the troopers were actually involved, they might be able to get, ‘Hey, that so and so over here was an excellent, excellent candidate. Hey, maybe we can actually encourage them to maybe join the troopers.
The Alaska State Troopers will continue to work to provide law enforcement service to our areas of responsibility based on the number of Troopers funded by the Legislature and that we are able to hire with an emphasis on rural Alaska. DPS welcomes constructive recommendations from Alaska’s urban communities on how they can partner with the Alaska State Troopers to improve public safety outcomes in their communities.
