Whenever you have a distorted thought, stop and evaluate whether it is accurate. Think about how you would respond if a friend spoke about herself that way. You would probably offer a good rebuttal to his or her negative view. Apply the same logic to your own thoughts. Ask yourself if you are assuming the worst will happen or blaming yourself for something that has not gone the way you wanted.
if you are unable to manage your thoughts or find they are interfering with your ability to meet your daily responsibilities or enjoy life.

Since a while ago, I made it a rule not to have any negative thoughts. Very comfortable. But I have depression and taking medication for that. It's another story.
My grandmother referred to me as an eternal optimist.

This particular technique does not require a therapist, it is a self-help technique, you can do anytime. Let's say a person is 'drained', and he has been in shock, and has been sad... but there is also another depression emotion that affects a person's energy... Listless...
Example: My suicidal thoughts were of Death and Dying, and Despair. When I targeted the emotions of the episode...the emotions stopped, the suicidal thoughts stop... and I only had to do THREE STEPS, and it did not take long to work...
It is not the negative thoughts draining your energy. It is the negative emotions producing the thoughts... THAT is what drains your energy... Emotions are... Energy in Motion. Thoughts can come out of emotions, not just vice versa. When I stop an emotion, the thoughts stop too.
