Ken Noland is the town manager of Wilkesboro. He said local officials are doing all they can in a difficult situation.
This is the second time this month the plant has temporarily halted operations. It was closed for cleaning earlier this month after a suspected outbreak. Previously, the Wilkes County Health Department tested 200 workers on site, and 39 were positive for the virus. Tyson also tested hundreds of employees on site and didn't release those results until yesterday.
The company also has temporarily idled plants in other states including, Iowa, Indiana and Nebraska. And Tyson's not alone. Meat and poultry processing plants have become coronavirus hot spots throughout the U.S. Smithfield Foods and Hormel Foods are among those that have shuttered plants because of COVID-19 outbreaks.
“flock immunity”?
IOW they have healthy immune systems. NPR is an enemy of the people.
hauserlisa1 Doesn’t Tyson process poultry in China? We’re the test kits from China? The majority of test kits imported from China are tainted. In other words, they give false positives. When we’re the workers tested? Are they still contagious? Americans aren’t stupid.
::YAWNS:: Here comes the NWO attack on poultry.....
Yes. This is why there has been so much focus on the coronaviruses. Agriculture. Some viruses are modified in labs for purposes of reproduction and infectivity, so they can be studied to find antiviral solutions...and for vaccines. Military spin-off studies are always considered
Chicken, beef and pork. The oceans are polluted. The convid-19 deniers swimming in the oceans is not boosting my confidence. The first part of the of the plan should have been to protect workers that deal with consumables. Colossal screw up.
These types of facilities are not set up for social distancing.
Rise your own chickens if you can.
This makes me doubt the tests. False positives? It also, means the temperature monitoring is worthless for protecting workers if this is true. So much data, and so little knowledge in the Information Age.
And I for one totally believe them. I mean it's not like a big corporate entity like Tyson to lie about things just to protect their own asses and reputation. 🙄
Just keep it open.
Hopesoftpaws The fact that Meat Packaging/Processing plants and Prisons are competing for the title of 'worst COVID-19 breeding grounds' says a lot of bad things about the health conditions of both.
SuperTwaddle I think that's called immunity
But is it Covid 19? Or some other kind of corona virus?
Superspreaders...
And we know tests can show false positives🤔
Do we need to regulate the size off these plants and stop forgiven countries from owning them? If a foreign country/investors own them, shod we require them to be unionized?
One out of 4 four. That’s really bad.
LoveToAllPosts Of course the fucking company they were forced to work at so they didn’t starve to death would say they weren’t showing symptoms
andrewperezdc which means its got an incredibly low death rate....
Shouldn’t meat packing be like one of the first industries to go all in on a robot workforce? chicken automation
Honestly, people, COOK your food & it’s perfectly safe, dumbasses. Have you never heard of salmonella? Prep your chicken, set it cooking, then wash your hands IMMEDIATELY. This was already proper safe food handling procedure. Have none of y’all ever cooked anything in your lives?
So what is your point?
Soooooo no chicken from the east coast!
Great news! Herd immunity is working despite the governments efforts to stop it
Could it be that dead chicken odors prevent symptoms ?
“didn’t show any symptoms”. 🤔 Two supposedly asymptotic people I know didn’t have a fever, but once I asked them about other symptoms they had plenty (shortness of breath, nausea, headaches etc). We’re a bit too attached to fever as the defining symptom, I think.
Caught from dead animals
How many people can capitalism kill? That whole ‘socialism kills’ seems a bit disingenuous now.
Brave people thank the good lord for their tenacity
Bad news if all or any of this information is true. So much for all the traditional spring/summer meat lover fest BBQs.
So, if they don’t have symptoms, they’re not sick
ugh bc trump is forcing slaughterhouses to stay open i fucking hate him he’s literally killing people by doing this
JFC!!! This explains the chicken nugget shortage! My kids are starving! And this now after they are forced to wipe their butts with face masks, which oddly enough are no longer in short supply, and quite soft.
And many of those 1 of 4 workers have families and close contacts. This is why we socialdistance and resume work cautiously. I wish them all good health.
Good job trumpy
What happens when their kids or families or communities get sick? ITS NOT ABOUT 1 SICK PERSON. ITS ABOUT EXPONENTIAL SPREAD AND ITS CONSEQUENCES.
meat packing plants are the perfect breeding groind to spread disease. meat and dressings carry pathogens, lots of ppl in close quarters, having to yell over the machinery (leading to droplets in the air), etc the jungle came out 100 years ago but is still relevant
sistercrow Vegetarian
Whhhaaattttt? 25% Terrible.
Thankfully, Tyson doesn't run any chicken processing or packing plants, they only sell 'chicken'.
Basically, the majority weren’t sick.
Shocking.
All asymptomatic too.
'Well if they hadn't been tested the numbers would be much lower' realDonaldTrump
The show must go on. Developing herd immunity is essential in fighting this virus.
Now imagine how the situation at Tesla's 'Modern day sweat-shop' factory is.
😳😷🤮 no more chicken for me
We need to live and protect our 80+ community- that is what the data shows us. Data scientists- disagree
We should add the word 'yet' for those asymptomatic...
So, coronavirus only harms the really sick and really old much like...EVERYTHING ELSE?
For those that don’t math, that’s 1 out of 4
Sounds like it’s not affecting them any worse than the flu.
Did anyone ask how long the corona virus can live on a dead chicken?
Well shit we need food
