Nearly all of the victims were found near the truck, while two later died at a hospital. Sixteen people had been taken to hospitals, including four kids.

A south Texas sheriff's office almost 90 miles away from Houston said as many as 82 of those people left the tractor-trailer when it broke down Friday morning.

Sixteen people were taken hospitals with heat-related illnesses, with four later dying. At least four were in critical condition, according to the hospitals. Among those were a 23-year-old woman in serious condition and an adolescent male in critical condition at University Hospital in San Antonio, Wolff said.

Those in the trailer were part of a presumed migrant smuggling attempt into the United States, and the investigation was being led by U.S. Homeland Security Investigations, McManus said.

This is a direct result of the Biden admin’s de facto open border policy. It is criminals who smuggle these people across the border who are often left for dead thereafter. Secretary Mayorkas is letting this happen, there is no other explanation. Fix the legal process, stop this.
