It happened in the 3100 block of West 50th Street on the border of the city's Stockyards and Clark-Fulton neighborhoods.
According to police, the girl ran out from between two cars and was struck by a dark-colored sedan heading north. The impact knocked the girl to the ground, and the car then drove over her and kept going. The car was last spotted heading west on Fanta Avenue and then south on West 50th Street. A passenger who was in the vehicle returned to the scene sometime later and was detained by police, authorities said.Cleveland EMS transported the girl to MetroHealth Medical Center, where she later died.The matter remains under investigation.
