5 new SF restaurants to check out this summer

One industry that perfectly demonstrates San Francisco’s resilience is the restaurant world. .

The husband-and-wife duo tapped chef Ryan McIlwraith, who formerly oversaw the Absinthe Group empire, to lead Alora’s kitchen. McIlwraith is a mastermind of flavor and texture. His muhammara — roasted red pepper and walnut dip — is so good that it could be bottled and sold at Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s. There’s also housemade pasta, fragrant lamb kebabs, salt cod fritters with jamon Iberico, and plump octopus with tzatziki.

There’s only one catch: they don’t accept reservations, so a line to get on the waitlist forms often, especially on the weekends. The good news is Early to Rise has just launched a limited menu of to-go items like bagels, schmears and bottled cocktails, which are perfect for picnicking and when you don’t want to wait.
