The five New Haven police officers were charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and cruelty to persons.

The officers turned themselves in at a state police barracks Monday. Each was processed, posted a $25,000 bond and are due back in court Dec. 8, according to a news release from state police. Messages seeking comment were sent to attorneys for the officers.

The case has drawn outrage from civil rights advocates like the NAACP, along with comparisons to the Freddie Gray case in Baltimore. Gray, who was also Black, died in 2015 after he suffered a spinal injury while handcuffed and shackled in a city police van."Mr. Cox was mistreated," Karl Jacobson, New Haven's assistant police chief, said in June."He should've received medical attention immediately. We can't defend anything that was released.

The mayor's office announced several policy changes following the incident, including installing seat belts in all police department transport vans and requiring officers to buckle in detainees. Seat belts were already required in police cruisers.

Misdemeanors?

Blue privilege and we taxpayers get to pony up the multi millions of $$ and they get this … time we to stop paying for their mistakes

I bet he a nice man that was well respected in the community. Sounds like they need to get the NAACP involved; There's money to be made off those white folk.

Doesn't seem fair.

People! Have better memories. Outrage against Qualified Immunity died down too quickly. 'Four of the officers filed motions last week claiming QualifiedImmunity from the lawsuit, arguing that their actions in the case did not violate any 'clearly established' legal standard'

Paralyzed? and they get charged with a MISDEMEANOR? Punishment doesn't seem to fit the crime. What am I missing?

Disgraceful.

Good

Fake news.

I hope those charges are bumped up as things progress. No matter who it is they hurt it's disgustingly wrong.

Let's hope their paid leave is no more now.

Good! This was horrific. And for heaven's sake, put seatbelts in the vans! And in school buses too, while we're at it.

This story means the Bible lies about men that they are kind,

Bottom-line don't be a 'Bad Azz'. When you're a 'Bad Azz' all eyes are on you. When you're a Bad Azz, you put yourself at risk. When you're a Bad Azz, you're luck will eventually out. Stop being a 'Bad Azz' Dear Citizen.

Stop investigating police and let them do their job!

5 officers charged after Black man paralyzed in police vanFive Connecticut police officers were charged with misdemeanors Monday over their treatment of a Black man after he was paralyzed from the chest down in the back of a police van. Randy Cox, 36, was being driven to a New Haven police station June 19 for processing on a weapons charge when the driver braked hard, apparently to avoid a collision, causing Cox to fly headfirst into the wall of the van, police said. The five New Haven police officers were charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and cruelty to persons. I just don’t understand why you consider it important to say that the person is a “BLACK MAN”. Situation would be terrible no matter what race. Looks like some of the police are black too, so the race card doesn’t work, plus most of us are tired of it! What would you do before second guessing and knowing the outcome? Don't ask why police are resigning in mass when you can't wait to throw them in jail.
